Come From Away is based on the true story of the
time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the
world. September 11, 2001 started as an average day in a small town and
unexpectedly turned into an international sleepover when 38 planes, carrying
7000 people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip when US
airspace closed. Undaunted by culture
clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander took small-town hospitality
to another level as they welcomed the 7000 stranded travelers - recognizing
that we’re all part of a global family.
Twelve actors tell the story of both the Islanders
and the “Plane People" (the Come from Aways), revealing not only
the fear and uncertainty that came with the terrorist attacks, but the profound
generosity and compassion of strangers.
